A national event was held in Malta on March 17, 2026, bringing together all relevant authorities involved in the implementation of the eFTI Regulation, marking an important step in the country’s preparation for the transition to digital freight transport information.

The workshop gathered stakeholders from transport, enforcement and the digital ecosystem, creating a focused setting for discussion and exchange. The objective was twofold: to provide an update on the latest developments related to eFTI and to collect direct feedback from the authorities that will play a key role in its deployment.

The event offered an opportunity to align national stakeholders on the upcoming implementation requirements, while also identifying practical considerations linked to the adoption of eFTI solutions. The active participation of the different authorities highlighted a shared commitment to ensuring a coordinated and effective transition from paper-based processes to digital data exchange.

Such initiatives are essential to support Member States in building a common understanding of eFTI and in addressing implementation challenges early on, particularly in relation to interoperability, enforcement procedures and the integration of digital systems.

Raising awareness through national media

As part of the broader effort to raise awareness on the digitalisation of freight transport, Laura Galea from Transport Malta also participated in a podcast hosted by Sagħtar FM, part of Newsbook Malta.

During the discussion, she explained the role of eFTI in enabling the transition from paper-based freight documentation to secure and standardised digital data, and outlined the potential benefits in terms of efficiency and simplification for both businesses and public authorities.
