The transition to digital freight documentation is gaining momentum across Europe, driven by the need for greater efficiency, transparency, and regulatory compliance. The eFTI4ALL project is at the forefront of this transformation, building upon the work of the eFTI4EU project to expand the implementation of the eFTI Regulation (EU) 2020/1056.

A complementary approach: eFTI4EU and eFTI4ALL

While eFTI4EU focuses on supporting Competent Authorities in adopting digital freight transport information, eFTI4ALL extends the scope by actively involving Economic Operators. By integrating businesses into the eFTI framework, the project ensures that real-world logistics needs are addressed, paving the way for practical and scalable digital solutions.

Developing and testing eFTI solutions

eFTI4ALL is committed to developing and validating electronic data exchange environments that facilitate seamless communication between businesses and authorities. Key activities include:

  • Pilot projects in live transport operations: testing eFTI Platforms and Gates in real-world scenarios, both at a national and cross-border level, to assess their performance, scalability, and integration capabilities.
  • Refining the eFTI Architecture: ensuring that digital freight solutions meet operational needs by fine-tuning technical specifications and interoperability frameworks.
  • Cross-border data exchange: establishing models for secure and efficient data sharing between EU Member States, enabling a harmonized digital freight ecosystem.
  • Legal implementation and certification: developing strategies to certify eFTI Platforms ensuring compliance with EU regulations and fostering trust in digital solutions.
  • National roadmaps and governance: supporting each Member State in structuring their eFTI adoption strategies, including governance frameworks for long-term implementation and compliance.

eFTI4ALL is structured around four Work Packages (WPs), each playing a vital role in turning eFTI into a practical reality:

  • WP1 – Common eFTI analysis and specifications
  • WP2 – eFTI implementation
  • WP3 – Communication, dissemination, and capacity building
  • WP4 – Project management, eFTI interoperability, and coordination

The project is coordinated by Trafikverket, the Swedish Transport Administration.

Supporting economic operators in digital transition

By engaging a broader network of stakeholders, including transport companies, logistics providers, and industry associations, eFTI4ALL provides the necessary tools and knowledge for businesses to transition from paper-based freight documentation to digital processes. This shift not only ensures compliance with the eFTI Regulation but also reduces administrative burdens, lowers costs, and improves supply chain efficiency.

Raising awareness and encouraging adoption

eFTI4ALL is not just about technology, it’s about people and processes. The project actively promotes knowledge sharing through events, publications, and capacity-building initiatives, ensuring that businesses and public authorities are equipped with the information needed to adopt and implement eFTI solutions effectively.

With eFTI4ALL, the transition from regulation to reality is well underway. By engaging businesses, testing real-world scenarios, and refining digital solutions, the project ensures that eFTI is not just a regulatory framework, but a practical tool for a more efficient and digitalized freight transport ecosystem.
