Transport Malta organised a national workshop dedicated to the implementation of the eFTI Regulation, bringing together hauliers, shippers, freight forwarders and logistics operators from across the country. The event took part on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, and was organised within the framework of the eFTI4ALL project and aimed to support the Maltese logistics community in preparing for the transition to digital freight transport information.
The workshop provided participants with an overview of the upcoming European requirements introduced by the eFTI Regulation and explained how these will affect the transport and logistics sector in the coming years. Particular attention was given to Malta’s national implementation approach, outlining the work being carried out by the competent authorities and the steps required to ensure compliance before the Regulation becomes fully applicable in July 2027.
Throughout the session, Transport Malta presented the operational changes that transport operators should begin preparing for, highlighting the opportunities offered by digital freight information exchange. Discussions focused on how eFTI can help reduce administrative burdens, improve cooperation between businesses and authorities, and contribute to more efficient and transparent freight transport operations.
The workshop also provided an opportunity for participants to engage directly with national experts, ask questions and discuss the practical implications of eFTI for their daily activities. By bringing together public authorities and industry representatives, the event encouraged an open dialogue on the challenges and opportunities associated with the digital transformation of freight transport.
National events such as this play a key role in the objectives of the eFTI4ALL project, helping to raise awareness of the eFTI Regulation, promote stakeholder engagement and support Member States in preparing for its implementation. As the 2027 deadline approaches, continued collaboration between competent authorities and the transport sector will be essential to ensure a smooth transition towards a fully digital freight transport ecosystem across Europe.
