On 11 June 2025, the first session of the eFTI4WB webinar series marked a key step forward in the digital transformation of freight transport in the Western Balkans. Organised under the EU4Digital programme, the event focused on the implementation of the eFTI Regulation, offering participants an in-depth look at how the regulation can streamline cross-border logistics, reduce paperwork, and lower costs.

The eFTI4ALL project was pleased to take part in this important exchange. Representing the consortium, Lasse Nykänen (Vediafi Oy) and Ieva Markucevičiūtė-Vinckė (MC Baltics) shared expert insights on the ambition behind the eFTI Regulation, key requirements for implementation, and the initial steps needed for adoption—both at national level and across borders. Their contributions highlighted the value of eFTI as a driver of smoother data sharing and greater cooperation between EU Member States and neighbouring regions.

Organised by GIZ Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, in partnership with the Transport Innovation Association (TIA), the webinar brought together policymakers, technical experts, and logistics stakeholders from across the Western Balkans. The session provided a clear overview of the legal and institutional foundations of the eFTI Regulation and opened a discussion on the preparation needed to establish eFTI-compliant systems—ranging from governance frameworks to inter-institutional cooperation.

As eFTI4ALL works to support a harmonised and inclusive rollout of the eFTI Regulation across Europe, participating in initiatives like eFTI4WB is key to building bridges and sharing knowledge. The Western Balkans represent a vital corridor in European freight flows, and deeper alignment on digital tools like eFTI can unlock major benefits for efficiency, security, and sustainability.

We thank our hosts and partners for the opportunity to contribute to this milestone and look forward to continued cooperation as the series progresses.
